One of Ireland's last peat-burning power stations was demolished in a spectacular controlled explosion on the 14th of October 2007 at 11am.

The station at Bellacorrick in north Mayo has been disused since 2005 and its huge cooling tower had to be dismantled for health and safety reasons.
The well-known landmark provided seasonal employment for up to 600 workers for nearly 50 years.
